University of Hawaii at Mānoa - Master of Science (M.S.) in Communication Sciences and Disorders

The University of Hawaii at Mānoa offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). A thesis or non-thesis option are available.

Courses

• Neuroscience in Communication Sciences and Disorders
  This course explores the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the human nervous system as it relates to communication and swallowing. Students will learn how neurological pathologies lead to deficits in those areas.
• Seminar in Motor Speech Disorders
  An in-depth examination of various motor speech disorders. Disorders such as dysarthria and apraxia of speech are reviewed, with an emphasis on assessment and treatment. Current literature on treatment is reviewed, as are practical exercises in treatment plan.
• Child Language Disorders
  This course examines the etiology, behavioral characteristics, and treatment techniques for language disorders in children. Studies how to identify language deficits (methods, tests, and instruments used in the diagnosis of child language disorders).
• Path to Licensure
  Students enrolled in the M.S. program in Speech Pathology must follow state-specific licensure requirements for the state they live in or plan to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist upon graduation.
  Upon graduation, students are eligible for national certification through ASHA (CCC-SLP) due to the program's Accreditation with ASHA.

Admissions requirements include:
1. Bachelor's degree (completion of 36 credit hours of undergraduate prerequisite CSD-related coursework if Bachelor's degree is not in CSD)
2. 25 hours of guided clinical observation in the practice of Speech-Language Pathology
3. Minimum GPA of 3.0 for final 4 semesters of undergraduate study
4. Minimum GPA of 3.5 in CSD prerequisite coursework
5. GRE scores; Minimum of 146 (Verbal & Quantitative sub-tests) & 3.5 (Written Examination)

Hawaii Online SLP Masters Degrees

There are not any Universities in Hawaii that offer an online Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology. There are nearby states across the Pacific (still a long flight!) that offer an online Master's in Speech Language Pathology degree.

California State University - Northridge Online MSLP Program

California State University - Northridge in Los Angeles, California offers a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology (M.S.) program. 56 credit hours are required and it takes students 3 years to complete the program. Students must complete practica where the live, and can complete all other coursework online. • Interviewing and Counseling in Communicative Disorders
  This is an advanced study of interviewing and counseling techniques used in Speech Language Pathology. The application of these strategies for diagnostic and therapeutic practice is reviewed. The course also discusses professional and ethical considerations for practice.
• Research in Communicative Disorders
  Students learn research methods and instrumentation used in the field of Speech Language Pathology. Techniques for completing literature searches, research design, statistical tests, and others will be discussed. Students will utilize online library research methods.

University of St. Augustine online MSLP program

University of St. Augustine has two locations in Texas and offers an online Masters degree (M.S.) program in Speech-Language Pathology. 55-58 credit hours are required over 5 trimesters (1.7 years). 2 trimesters of virtual clinical practice and 3 semesters of on-site clinical practice are required. 4 residency weeks at the University of St. Augustine's Austin or Dallas campus is required. Baylor University Masters in Communication Sciene and Disorders

Baylor University in Waco, Texas offers an online Master of Science (M.S.) degree program in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The program can be completed in 20 months if attending full-time and 28 months if attending part-time. GRE scores are not required to apply, and graduates have a 97% Praxis pass rate.

Individuals must be licensed by the state board as a Speech-Language Pathologist to practice in Hawaii. In order to be licensed in this state, the individual must meet the following requirements:

1. Master’s (or its equivalent) in Speech-Language Pathology from an institution accredited by the Council on Professional Standards of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
2. Evidence of eligibility for meeting ASHA requirements for CCC in Speech pathology, including: 375 hours of supervised clinical practicum, 36 weeks of full-time postgraduate Clinical Fellowship (supervised by an SLP with a CCC).
3. Passage of an ETS written examination
4. 3 Letters of recommendation
