Texas Tech University - Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology
The School of Health Professions at TTU provides a program that will give a pathway toward licensure in the state of Texas. Topics covered in the program will guide future professionals into identifying and determining disorders in speech and swallowing, and being able to provide treatment for their patients and give them prevention methods in order to approve their lifestyle. The entire program will take between five to six semesters depending on the students' background, and there is an option to create a thesis throughout most semesters of the program or completing a comprehensive exam.
Admission requirements for those looking into the program includes the application and fee, and students need to hold a Bachelor's degree with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. Other submissions needed are GRE scores and official transcripts, but there are no requirements for a personal statement or letters of recommendation. Prerequisites needed for those that did not pursue a related discipline include a course in physical science, life science, social science, and statistics.

University of Texas at Austin - Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders
To break into the Master's degree program offered by the Moody College of Communication, prospective students must submit an official transcript, GRE or GMAT scores, an essay describing the purpose of taking the program, and an updated resume. There are different application processes for those returning as UT Austin alumni and undergraduates from other universities and colleges. In addition to the Master's program, students also have the option of taking the Doctor of Audiology and Doctor of Philosophy.
Around 60 credit hours will be needed to complete the program, which is divided up into core courses, clinical practicum, and a few elective options. There is an option to get out of the practicum and still gain ASHA accreditation, but gaining licensure requires the completion of this particular coursework. Not only is there an option toward a thesis and non-thesis pathway to complete the program, but there are specializations in the following categories: Audiology, Deafness Studies, and Speech and Hearing Science.
West Texas A&M University - Master of Speech-Language Pathology
There are two ways to complete the Master's degree through the College of Nursing and Health Sciences - pursuing either the thesis or non-thesis option. A comprehensive exam will be taken for those that choose the latter option. Examples of courses that are taken in the curriculum are Research in Communication Disorders, Aphasia and Right Hemisphere Syndrome, Pediatric Speech Sound Disorders, and Language Disorders of School-Age Children. For those looking at smaller enrollment, this university has a significantly smaller student base when compared to other options at Texas Tech and UT at Austin.
Requirements for submission to be administered include GRE scores, three letters of recommendation, transcripts that detail coursework completed. Admissions for the program have a set deadline on January 15th each year, and students must have a 3.2 minimum GPA for the last 60 credit hours of work in an undergraduate degree related to communication disorder. Obligations for students toward the end of the program include completing the Praxis national exam with a score of 162 or higher, and to complete the Knowledge and Skills Acquisition which helps to obtain certification by the ASHA.
