Diagnosis and Therapy of School-Age Language
This course examines the different approaches used by SLPs when working with children and adolescents who have language disorders and learning disabilities. Students learn the practical application of administering language assessments, individualized intervention planning, and recommended strategies for therapy.
Autism/Complex Communication Disorders
Social communication skills, behavior, and neurodiversity in individuals is studied in this course. Students will learn about topics such as foundational information on Autism Spectrum Disorders (including assessment and treatment using evidence-based practice), and communication strategies for working with a neurodiverse population.
Swallowing Disorders
This course is offered for 3 credit hours. It examines the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the swallowing mechanism. Students will learn about the diagnosis and treatment of swallowing disorders (dysphagia).
Path to Licensure
Students enrolled in the M.S. program in Speech Pathology must follow state-specific licensure requirements for the state they live in or plan to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist upon graduation.
Both students who are residents of Montana and non-Montana residents are eligible for national certification through ASHA (CCC-SLP) due to the program's Accreditation with ASHA.
Admissions requirements include:
1. Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) or SLP OR a in a related field and completion of a CSD leveling program (which includes prerequisite courses) from an accredited institution
2. Minimum GPA of 3.0 for all CSD courses
3. Completion of 25 ASHA certified guided observation hours
4. 3 Letters of recommendation
5. Resume
6. Completion of several short-answer information-gathering supplemental questions on the program's application
