University of Wyoming - Master of Science (M.S.) in Speech-Language Pathology

The University of Wyoming offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Speech-Language Pathology. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). The M.S. in SLP program takes two years to complete. The first year of the program consists of 3 semesters of on-campus coursework. The second year consists of 3 semesters of online courses/at offsite clinical practicums and externships.

Courses include:

  • Evidence Based Practice (EBP) and Evaluation Procedures in Communication Disorders
    This course examines research and evaluation procedures utilized in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. Students will learn about evidence-based practice, how to evaluate research, assessment and evaluation processes, and using various modes of assessment (including norm-based reference tools).
  • Voice Disorders
    Includes a study of the etiology, assessment, and remediation of voice disorders in children and adults. This course discusses the prevention of voice disorders, strategies for maintaining good vocal hygiene, and typical changes in voice. The rehabilitation options for laryngectomized individuals are presented.
  • Craniofacial Disorders
    This course studies communication disorders that are associated to cleft lip and palate disorders and the associated cranofacial sequences and syndromes. It includes an examination of assessment and treatment of these communication disorders, as part of an interdisciplinary model of management. Velopharyngeal insufficiency is examined, including surgical and nonsurgical treatment procedures utilized to manage associated speech disorders.

Path to Licensure

Students enrolled in the M.S. program in Speech Pathology must follow state-specific licensure requirements for the state they live in or plan to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist upon graduation.
Upon graduation, students are eligible for national certification through ASHA (CCC-SLP) due to the program's Accreditation with ASHA.

Admissions requirements include:
1. Bachelor's degree
2. Completion of required undergraduate coursework in the field of Communication Disorders. Applicants have the option of completing this through the University of Wyoming's Leveling Program.
3. Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
4. 3 Letters of recommendation
